Coppertop’s native Ribes sanguineum are a bright spot of pink in this wet week. April showers had better bring gorgeous May flowers because the wait is starting to feel long. Down the hill, the row of faithful, arching forsythia continue to infuse a grey month with cheerful yellow.
I had not idea that they are native there! It looks a bit richer pink than ours, and the foliage seems to be a bit softer. Ours seem to fit the chaparral climate better, but it could just be a result of where they are growing.

They do deepen in tone over their month-long bloom. Hummingbird heaven!

I’m happy to have the rain, considering how dry our summers are getting, but this spring is certainly a slow one.

Slow as molasses! And still too wet to get much soil work done down here.
