For record keeping, what follows is a running list of monthly garden activity I haven’t mentioned in journal posts:
- The month of forget-me-nots, Myosotis sylvatica, has arrived! early April
- Added two Campanula glomerata ‘Joan Elliott’ (clustered bellflower), two Delphinium ‘Magic Fountain,’ and one Leucantheum Superbum ‘Becky’ (Shasta daisy) to perennial beds. early April
- Spotted a new bird! White-crowned sparrows, known to be common in this area, have been visiting our deck feeders. Brings the Coppertop bird list up to 35. early April
- Another tiny new visitor has found the deck feeder — an Olympic Chipmunk. Look at those fat cheeks stuffed with sunflower seeds. mid April
- New and second year tulips have begun blooming in the whiskey barrels. mid April
- Violas planted in the kitchen boxes in October still going gangbusters. mid April
- All chicks are looking like young hens at 8 weeks old. The big move to the Chicken Mansion can’t come soon enough. late April
- Transplanted 20 pots of four varieties of tomatoes, plus some melon and eggplant seedlings, and sent them to work with Hubby as freebies for teachers and staff. After he sent an email to all, the pots were gone in just an hour. That day I potted up the final eight extra plants I had to give away, and off they went too. late April
