Gardens at Coppertop

I’m not sure how I missed all the foxgloves here last year. As they sprouted, it’s possible I mistook them for weeds or even the dreaded nettles and yanked them. It’s also possible they didn’t do well last year, since many are biennials.  But this year — wow!

From the genus Digitalis, foxgloves are known for their stately beauty, their preference for partial shade, and their potency as a medicinal plant.

I’m thinking that many of these are the common foxglove, Digitalis purpurea. Interesting that the name digitalis was given due to the fact that the flower’s bells fit easily over a person’s finger or digit. It’s important to check for bees first, as bees are happily buzzing all over Coppertop.
