Last week’s sunshine gave a real boost to our herb garden, also called the kitchen garden. Lush herbs are covering the hillside plot. Included are rosemary, lemon balm, oregano, sage, thyme, cilantro, basil, various mints, salad burnet, and parsley. Cilantro and basil, typically requiring the heat of summer, have done well already.

The last two days have been misty, giving us much-needed moisture. Here on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, we are actually in a drought. Our snowpack is at a mere 20% of normal. Water conservation is important even for those of us with our own wells.
