For record keeping, what follows is a running list of monthly garden activity I haven’t mentioned in journal posts:
- Planted young, semi-dwarf Lapins Cherry tree at the top of lupine hill. Tag reads: “The fruit is quite large with a deep red color and lighter red flesh. This variety is self-fertile (also pollinates Rainier!). Ripens early to mid-season. Average size 15 ft. tall and 10 ft. wide.” early April
- Grass cutting season returned with full vigor. Hubby has mowed these hilly acres a couple times already. Ah, the fresh green color and aroma. early April
- Another banner harvest promised by the tight blooms (and the bees!) on six currant bushes. mid April
- Forget-me-nots in bloom all over Coppertop. Love these diminutive beauties. mid April
- Have filled most of the raised beds and some ground area in veggie garden. Included so far: prizehead lettuce, buttercrunch lettuce, broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, savoy cabbage, chinese cabbage, little marvel peas, purple runner beans, bush beans, atomic red carrots, red russian kale, arugula. mid April
- Transplanting sweet pea seedlings all over, from the deck planters to each pole in the garden! late April
- Fight against horsetails and stinging nettles along the periphery has commenced. late April
