Today’s signs of spring include the unfurling hellebores and the crocuses, which suffered a bit from the heavy rains. Walking the muddy gardens and taking some photos this morning was a treat for my senses — smell of earth, sound of rushing water, sight of many plants awakening, feel of drops of water falling from tree branches, and anticipation of the taste of a bevy of berries!
I will need to prune the large marionberry vine trellis soon, as well as raspberry vines and currant plants. I’m researching techniques, taking it all in. The 5 new blueberry bushes are looking good — the photo is of one of the smaller, cold-hardy northern varieties. They are supposed to have more of a “wild blueberry” taste, so we shall see.
