A 10-day break from the garden for a wonderful family retreat at Lake Tahoe means lots of extra work this week! We returned to blooms and veggies needing picking, and we’ve hit the ground running. Today I harvested many pounds of beans, squash, tomatoes, and marionberries.

Down in the cutting garden, I removed spent flowers and took in the best of the blooms. I’ve got dahlias on the brain!

Since I first read about Swan Island Dahlia Farm in Canby, Oregon, I’d wanted to visit. One of our raised beds is filled with varieties of dahlias from that farm. My wish came true yesterday on our return trip. Here in photos is some of the magic of that place.

It’s completely impossible to pick favorites. For vibrant, gorgeous color, Fired Up stood out.

Two other amazing ones out of hundreds of outstanding dahlias are the huge, relaxed Papageno and the honeycomb structured Cornel.

  1. Hi there, Do you sell dahlia tubers? And if so where does one go to find them? Thank you! Christine

    1. Hi Christine! No, I don’t sell dahlia tubers. Have you considered Swan Island (where these field photos were taken), Bear Creek Farm, Triple Wren Farms, The Flower Hat or even larger sites like Dutch Gardens or Longfield Gardens? Have fun shopping!

      1. Thanks for the reply and yes, I know all of them. I’m in search of elusive varieties so I’m always on the hunt for sellers. Thanks!
