Today I identified a weed I’ve pulled a few of in the low beds near the front door. It’s called Herb Robert, or Stinky Bob, and it really does have a strange odor when pulled. I hemmed and hawed about pulling it out last week since it looks like it could be a geranium variety — and it turns out it IS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geranium_robertianum.   Thankfully the roots are extremely shallow and it lifts right up. As I’ve only seen these in the front beds, I’m hoping it won’t be a frequent visitor, but I read that the northwest forests are in danger of being overrun by Stinky Bob.

I’ll do my part to keep it out of these lovely plantings of crocuses, muscari, potentilla and more.
