A Look Back – 2020

So many folks are pleased to see this year in the rearview. It’s been a strange one, that’s for certain. I haven’t hated it because it held plenty of joy for me personally, including the birth of a precious, second grandson, but I’ve hated the pain and suffering the year held for many.

I find it’s impossible to immerse myself in the garden and not stay focused on a bright future. In the Coppertop gardens, a few 2020 standouts shine:

In January, the new snowblower was put to good use.
Late winter brought four additional raised beds in the veg garden.

Throughout the spring, we expanded borders and enjoyed a calming blend of new rhododendrons and tulips.

Summer held successes in the rose garden and new borders, a first foray into favas, the expansion of a shade border, and the addition of a most excellent compost set-up.

The promises planted this past fall include new peonies and loads of spring bulbs. We also soaked up all the glorious fall color.

We sang a beloved hymn at our daughter’s wedding one week ago that ended with:

Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

“Great is Thy faithfulness!” “Great is Thy faithfulness!”
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
“Great is Thy faithfulness, ” Lord, unto me!

  1. Your daughter married last week? Wonderful! It did me good to look back at my photos of this year to remind me of all the highlights, and it is so nice to see you also have had a good year in the garden. Happy New Year to you and your family March!

  5. It’s wonderful to be able to look back on the garden and see the promise of what is yet to come this year. I’m sure you had a wonderful time at your daughter’s wedding, the verse you quoted is very uplifting. Best wishes for 2021!

  7. What a lovely look back, and your gardens are outstanding! Those bulbs and peonies will certainly be something special to anticipate. And I’m sure you put those four new beds into good use, too.
